Recent Aesthetic Developments

Some recent visual media I’ve developed and feel proud of.

The drawing is crowded – there are issues with the drawing, the bottom right shape is messy, needs refinement. The purple guy is bad, but the guy up top is what I’m going towards – more ornamentation.

Ornamentation like this – I’m aiming to add more color, shapes, patterns, as opposed to BLOCKS of color within cartoons. Like:

This interest comes as a direct result of seeing this image on the Wiki page for “Sintir” and being awestruck at the beauty of this man and his style.

Been taking darker pictures – I like how these are coming out.

Just like the composition of this one. Been thinking about the role of being passive/active as a photographer, and a lot of pictures that I’ve been unhappy with are a result of me being too passive as a photographer. The content a lot of times is just too mundane. I enjoyed taking pictures of mundane things for a while but its gotten really stale and doesn’t provide for enough individuality in terms of the media that I’m producing.

The picture below (and the pictures above) are somewhat passive – these moments would have existed without me, but the content is uncanny enough that it asks questions – “where is this?” “what is this?” “is this real?” “how did he get here?”

“How was this picture taken?” Can mean a lot of different things – what settings were used? What camera was used? How did a photographer get an angle? How did a photographer get their camera in here? How did a photographer get a person to agree to having their picture taken? Where was this taken?

“How was this picture taken?” – the more open ended this question is when someone looks at a picture, the higher the likelihood that the picture in question is a good picture.
